EcoFishMan open dialogue workshop and work package meetings in Copenhagen

HCABSelected stakeholders were invited to contribute to an open dialogue workshop that was held at Eurofish in Copenhagen 7-9 September 2011. Eight stakeholders brought their  knowledge and ideas to the meeting and held a constructive discussion with the other 30 EcoFishMan project participants.

The dialogue was lead by Marta Ballesteros from CETMAR-Spain and this session led to several inputs which will be incorporated by the scientists when they develop the first Responsive Fisheries Management System (RFMS) in EcoFishMan.

The thrust of the meeting was to identify and discuss the “indicators.” These are the variables that will be used in the new RFMS to measure performance and to manage the system. The first RFMS will be tested in a case study in the Icelandic demersal mixed fishery in a few months. The system will then be evaluated and modified for the next study. Altogether four case studies will be used to test and adapt the RFMS. The second case study is the Portuguese crustacean bottom trawl fishery, while the third is the North Sea mixed demersal bottom trawl fishery. The fourth and final case study is the Mediterranean mixed demersal trawl fishery.
